Indu Amar is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Tax in Delhi. She is part of the Indirect Tax Division. Ms. Amar brings over 20 years of experience in helping multinationals navigate the complexities of the indirect tax landscape.
Ms. Amar’s primary areas of concentration are strategic advisory, advocacy, tax restructuring, litigation and controversy management, departmental audits and tax assessments. Ms. Amar has worked with clients across a range of industries and sectors, including aviation (particularly foreign airlines), pharmaceutical, IT and IT-enabled services, healthcare, and power.
Ms. Amar’s notable assignments include supporting foreign airlines for over a decade—in particular, managing tax investigations, litigation, audits, and assessments. She has experience working on India entry strategic projects for manufacturing clients, involving substantial customs, state-specific incentives, and other Goods and Services Tax (GST) benefits for setting up greenfield facilities in India. In addition, Ms. Amar has worked on advocacy projects for pharmaceutical clients seeking concessional GST rates on vaccines and drugs and enrolling patient assistance program (PAP) schemes under customs laws. She worked on a GST fiscal impact assessment study for the Indian Ministry of Power and one of the Maharatna Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in India. She managed an extensive forensic assignment involving several indirect tax red flags. Ms. Amar has handled sector-specific, high-stakes litigation matters at India’s indirect tax tribunal (CESTAT), High Court, and Supreme Court level for clients in key sectors, namely healthcare, pharma, aviation, insurance, and entertainment and media (broadcasting).
Prior to joining A&M, Ms. Amar spent more than 11 years with Deloitte India’s Indirect Tax Practice, where she most recently served as an Executive Director. Before that, she spent 10 years with PwC’s Indirect Tax Practice.
Ms. Amar earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
