Russ Battaglia is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Disputes and Investigations in Washington, D.C. He provides experienced support and expert advice to litigation, regulatory, and antitrust practices at the largest international law firms and to boutique law practices. Mr. Battaglia also delivers compliance support services directly to business units within institutions operating in global marketplaces and on financial exchanges.


Mr. Battaglia brings over 25 years of experience in both the private and public sectors of the commodities and derivatives industries. As a former derivatives trader for 15 years and more than 10 years as a consultant, he has extensive knowledge of commodities and derivatives brokerage and trading operations and industry-wide practices. 

Mr. Battaglia has expertise across multiple asset classes and products and has served a diverse client base that includes physical traders, commodity merchants, banks, hedge funds, commodity trading advisors, futures commission merchants, exchanges, high-frequency traders, and proprietary trading groups.

In addition to providing investigative and litigation support, Mr. Battaglia delivers guidance on the implementation and execution of compliance, surveillance, and regulatory risk strategies. He has also provided subject matter expertise and performed due diligence in energy industry related mergers, acquisitions and restructurings and is an experienced testifying expert in trading-related litigation and arbitration disputes.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Battaglia was a Senior Economist in the Division of Enforcement of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as an industry expert and advisor to the Director of Enforcement. He advised the Division’s staff of over 150 attorneys and investigators on CFTC investigations and litigation. Mr. Battaglia initiated and executed numerous investigations into market misconduct and has worked closely with regulatory and law enforcement agencies on enforcement actions and inquiries (FERC, DOJ, SEC, and the UK Financial Conduct Authority).

Mr. Battaglia earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Delaware. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
